Over the next couple of weeks, I will share some intriguing details about Glastonbury, England, a place that has played host to many of history’s biggest secrets. Whispers of the grail have hung like legend in the air for 2,000 years and for good reason. Certainly, like Rennes le Château, Glastonbury, palpably leaves pilgrims wanting more. So pleasant is this town and countryside, that one could almost say it has an air of sacredness. Certainly millions flock to its shores each year, for comfort and inspiration. Why? Let us examine! 

A sacred pilgrimage site: The Tor – said to be a portal of grace.

Reportedly, two-thousand years ago King Lud gave Christ and his family, Glastonbury, as a place of refuge. Rumors of their feet having touched the green fields of olde England, have long been whispered of, and since Joseph of Arimathea is known to have mined tin nearby, these claims are likely true. Another strange wonder is the holy thorn tree that stands in the garden of Glastonbury Abbey’s ruins. It is the only one of its kind, outside of Jerusalem. Folk tales suggest Joseph of Arimathea buried Christ’s crown of thorns here in England’s first church, where a flowering tree grew in its place and still survives today. The holy thorn’s miraculous importance is so great that the Queen of England has a twig from its branches laid upon her table each year at Christmas.

The thorn tree’s DNA test confirms the tree is from Jerusalem, as well as its age, two-thousand years old. This gives credence to my belief that Jesu and the holy family visited the area after the resurrection. Reputedly, King Lud greeted the risen Messiah, and offered a gift of 2,000 hectares of land, so that he would have a safe haven. Remember, Jesus and his family were exiled from Judea and on the run!
